Children's Cancer Research Fund (CCRF) is profoundly important to the Higgins/Hageboeck family (Hageboeck is Doug’s mom’s side of the family). In 1979, Doug's 13-year old cousin, Katie, died after a 16 month battle with leukemia. She received her treatment at the University of Minnesota and she requested that her savings for a 10-speed bike be donated to a little known fund within the University of Minnesota, the CCRF. Since Katie's passing and under the leadership of Katie's parents, (and Doug's Uncle and Aunt) Norm and Diana Hageboeck, the CCRF has supported innovative research to treat and prevent childhood cancer for the last 40+ years. In the summer of 2024, the Katie Hageboeck Children's Cancer Research Fund Clinic will officially open at the M Health Fairview Masonic Children's Hospital. We would be honored if you would consider donating to the Katie Hageboeck Clinic in lieu of wedding gifts.
